Advisor meeting

Today was the day...The day you begin the stress of registering for classes! ahh! well its not that it is difficult its just stressful on the DAY OF registration because the fear you may not get into the classes you want. Usually you get up extremely early (registration is at 7 AM for me) wait by the computer and when it turns 7AM you IMMEDIATELY type in all your class numbers!

Its frantic!

Its crazy!

AH!

anyways, so my adviser is new this semester, but I absolutely love her. We went through all of the classes I have taken and then created a list of those that I need to take this coming semester.

Those classes are:
RDG 318- which is your beginning foundational reading class (basically a pre-requisite for all your fundamental education classes.)
SPE 31- Which is Intro to Special Education
BIO 100- A  4 credit hour class which is half lab half lecture/ a Biology for Teachers class
MTH 320- Math for Teachers: you learn all the fundamentals in how to teach math to children
then ENG 210- which is just English 2 which is a general education requirement.

My adviser also asked me about taking my CBASE (which I took, completed, and passed last semester). It is a basic exam (somewhat like the ACT) that all education majors must take. Its basically an overall look at how much you know. You must pass all sections of this test before you can move on into the upper level education classes. The great thing about this exam is that if you do not pass one section, then you only have to take that section again and not the entire test! YAY!

So November 16 is when the adventure of registering for classes begins for me so I'll keep ya updated!

Missouri State University

Missouri State University began as a Teacher's college in 1905. Today, the teaching field still dominates many majors within the University, and is well-known within the colleges across the country. I would recommend this university to anyone, not just for teaching.  I have had an overall amazing experience here and I know that I made the right decision in choosing this building block for my future.

Attending a university with outstanding educational support in your major is the first step in gaining the knowledge you need to become the strongest teacher that you can be.

In addition: Some rules for my page

Now I know not everyone will have the same opinions about things that I do, but I would really appreciate if you followed these rules for my blog:

1. Be courteous (to me and my fellow followers)
2. Make appropriate comments
3. Ask questions!

Education Classes and such

It's important to know that in your first year of college you are mainly going to be taking classes that are part of your General Education Requirements. They may seem tedious, but do help you out in the end. I am in the fall semester of my sophomore year of College at Missouri State University, and I am finally in classes in regards to my elementary education major! YAY! Below I will list the classes I have this semester so that you can get an idea of what you have coming up! I'll even include a link that you can access to get a better description of the class itself.

1. IMT 365
2. ELE 302 pg. 192
3. EDC 150 pg. 202
4. PHI 115 pg. 269
5. HST 122 pg. 261

So far...

So far this year has been amazing! I could not ask for better professors, and I definitely could not ask for a better practicum teacher (teacher whose classroom you go in and observe, help, etc. for some of your classes).  My professors are genuinely interested in your life and making you the best teacher that you can be.

Its nice to know that when you are walking into things that are completely new, that you have people around you that are there to catch you when you fall, or to even build a bridge so that you do not even fall into the muddy puddle to begin with!

I have been able to work with an amazing 1st grade teacher in my practicum classroom, who has allowed me to tutor children, teach review for quizzes, create classroom bulletin boards, and she talks to me about any problem, question, or uneasy feeling I may have. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to already get the experience in doing these activities this early in my college career. Even if you do not get the best practicum teacher in the world, you still have the opportunity to learn. Assess the situation, and learn and grow from watching and making mental notes of how you would do things differently. I walked into my ELE 302 class no having a clue how I was going to pick my practicum teacher (you are allowed to make suggestions as to who you want).  I knew from past experiences that I absolutely loved one of the schools in my area, so I wrote down the school and I have been very happy with the outcome ever sense.

Intro to Media and Technology for Teachers

I'm starting this blog for a class project, but I am making a commitment to continue this blog through my journey of becoming a teacher. So, if you are not sure why some of my blog postings are on here, just know that they are for my class :)

I thought it might be interesting for those of you out there who might want to be teachers, to know how this process works, so that you can more easily decide if this is the right career for you.

Good luck, and I hope to someday see your smiling face in a yearbook next to "Teacher of the Year".
